Finally time for my Scandinavian friend Var Nish to spread himself all over my painting. For watercolor or paper drawings I just spray a few light layers of fixative, but because this is an acrylic painting on wood, and because a lot of the paint colors have variations in finishes (matte, gloss, etc), this piece needs a Good visit from my glossy friend Var Nish. I use liquitex standard gloss varnish, applying 3-4 thin layers over the course of 8 hours or so. For each layer, you can squeeze out any letter you want, but I like to use X because i am an equally huge fan of the X Men and the X Clan. Using a super soft haired brush (NOT a hair brush) just go back and forth and up and down once for each layer. Don't over brush it, if it looks like there's lines/ridges in the varnish, they should flatten out as it dries. After the varnish is dry you can either try to sell the painting, give it away, send it to The Red Hot Chili Peppers with a blood and urine soaked note attached saying "You're Next", or you can bury it to save for emergency use later.
