Going back to my alcohol post yesterday ..... You cannot argue that alcohol is good for you. It's not. It's a poison. No study EVER has proved that alcohol as a substance provides any nutritional value for your body The "benefits" come from the fruits used to make it. So if you want vitamins and antioxidants ....have some fresh fruit 🍋🍐

There are a lot of things in the world that are bad for us, and yet we choose to do them anyway. I think if people want to drink alcohol and they enjoy it, that is their personal choice. But I agree with Kayla that you cannot argue that alcohol has any physical health benefits. If you've ever studied nutrition and the physiology of the human body etc, you should understand that alcohol is a poison to the body.

I find it really interesting how so many people claim to admire Kayla and follow all of her other health and fitness related advice because they trust her judgement, yet when it comes to alcohol there seems to be a lot of people who believe they know better. Thank you for these posts though, @kaylaitsines, it's so inspiring to see someone promoting a healthy, active lifestyle and not letting anybody bring you down.

You can have as many drinks a week ad you feel like, but gor god sake don't say it's a healthy thing prooved by scientists 😱😱 or she's brainwashing us hahaha... Just accept you're doing something that is bad for your health once or twice a week. If RED WINE is all the alcohol you guys drink, then OK, you can say it is kinda healthy. Wow. I can't believe how many people are criticising Kayla for her alcohol related posts. She has clearly stated that she is not trying to tell people how to live their lives and what/what not to do. She has simply described her experiences with alcohol and provided some information regarding the harmful effects of alcohol to our health. Good on you Kayla for being a health-promoting role model! There is nothing wrong with that. I think a lot of the criticism in these comments stem from people's own insecurities. I myself drink alcohol 1 or 2 nights per week and did not find Kayla's posts offensive or condescending.

Being fit and healthy is not the end all of life, throughout the ages/eons ceremony (not monolithic modern religions) celebrating life in connection with each other, animals and the planet have invariably contained alcohol and what we now call drugs ( botanical compounds) much before LITT, HITT, plyo etc were around. Many people wrote things like "I am unfollowing Kayla because of this" and "you are not a doctor you can't do such statements", many others felt offended about her words because she neglected the scientific health benefits. Come on!!!!!! We are all free to do what we want but you can't deny the bad health consequences of alcohol are easier to get to and more consistent than the good ones. These are the scientific facts. And there's nothing wrong or non-scientifical with what she said. Kayla is setting a great example, especially for the youngest, which can be more vulnerable and less informed.

CHRONIC comsumption leads to cyrrhosis, epatitis, liver failure, hepatorenal syndrome (kidney failure) and also hepatic coma (liver does not clean the body anymore and urea arrives to the brain). Sorry for all the writing but hopefully this makes things clearer.

I have read most of the comments and I would like to say give my opinion abou this: I am from Italy (I will probably do some english mistakes, sorry for that in advance) and I am currently in Medical school, I am not yet a doctor, but I do not consider myself an ignorant about this topic. Most of you are (very well) stating that one glass of alcohol every now and then will not arm you, and could also have potential antioxidant and good cardiovascular effects, and that like everything in life the point is that it should be done in moderation, like eating chocolate and bunjee jumping and doing exercise etc. I would totally agree with this. But most of you are not considering some things: first of all, not all the alcoholic drinks are the same, because if red wine is scientifically proven to have the effects written above, vodka doesn't. Tequila doesn't. Whiskey doesn't. I could go on for ages but let's go to the other point, which is the key of everything. Alcohol causes ADDICTION, which some experts demonstrated being worse than tobacco's and cocaine's. So drinking alcohol in moderation is absolutely harder than doing many other things is moderation. It lowers your "sensorio" and gets you potentially harmful for others and yourself (for example if you are driving a car), it can trigger unshown personality disturbs...and this are only some of the effects of ACUTE alcohol consume.

@leahitsines never said I didn't, I just don't think it's fair to put in mind it's a bad thing or we being brainwashed and killing ourselves, were all dying anyway even kayla in an extreme healthy lifestyle (which I respect and was loving until now). I'm not convincing you to have a drink, It's not important to me, but don't say bad stuff about us who can have a drink and still be healthy. It's also a decision, I don't have to be a body trainer and vegan to have a healthy lifestyle. Sorry alcohol is not poison.

Please be careful with what you say as there are alot of girls that look up to you and you are not always giving them the correct info. Everyone is entitled to their opinion & I respect that but to say alcohol is poison is factually incorrect, what about diet drinks they are in my mind poison but yet you never mention these....I love your posts but this one & all your alcohol ones aren't good with the facts. However encouraging people to exercise rather than binge drinking would be a better idea ?

And what i understood from her post is, nutritional values comes from the FRUITS which are used to make alcoholic drinks. When alcohol is mixed with fruits it has some benefits if its used as a medicine occasionally in limited quantity But we don't do it occasionally. Do we? Even if we drink occasionally do we just have 50-100ml? Access to this is always bad for liver n our body. Alcohol has many uses when consumed like a medicine.

It's like a piece of chocolate, one can bring you a lot of benefits and two not so many, but it's not considered poison. Alcohol is such a taboo I mean it's not that bad. Everything in excess is bad eating too much, not eating at all, running too much, protein in excess is bad, vitamins in excess are bad, even water in excess is bad, doesn't mean it's poisonous. And I'm not defending alcohol, but returning to your question, yes alcohol itself is good for your heart. And it's not like if you don't drink alcohol you are necessarily a healthy, responsible and better human being, it's just like enjoying chocolate.😊

Actually there are lots of studies you'll find on pubmed (which is a non-biased website) as to the benefits of small amounts of alcohol. Yes there are non-benefits but that's when alcohol is abused. Like anything. For example, protein, when you have to much you risk kidney and liver damage as well as putting your bowel at risk. And for the 'fruit' being responsible for the benefits, it's because when you drink 1 glass if red wine, your getting the full benefits and antioxidants of 100 to 200 grapes, with a LOT less sugar in one glass of wine to 200 grapes. Now I don't think many people would sit down and eat that many grapes, they'd probably get a stomach ache, and I don't think your H.E.L.P recommends eating that many grapes in one sitting. Also, areas in the world that have a life expectancy of 95 plus on average INCLUDE very small amounts of alcohol in their diets. Like Japan and Italy, there is a whole documentary about this. Sugar is also considered a poison lately due to new studies coming out, yet those same scientists that have published the studies have also said our bodies are capable of handling SMALL AMOUNTS. So my point is 1 glass of red wine once or twice a week will not 'poison' you. Eating 2 squares of chocolate will not 'poison' you. If you drive a car and fill up at the gas station your probably breathing in 'poisonous' fumes but your body is capable of handling this just fine because it is only for a couple minutes.

@caitlynjadee While people may make an conscious decision to start drinking. Addiction is never a conscious choice. Yes, everyone has a brain. Everyone has neurotransmitters and receptor sites. Do you control these consciously? No. Addiction is way more complex then a simple choice. I'm glad you think it's that simple - it means you've never had to experience the hold that someone so bad for you can have over your body.

I choose not to drink or smoke because thats what i want to do, otherwise I believe its detrimental on MY health. I try to keep out of these things but damn.. im currently in a remote dry community only way in is by plane and the community does not sell alcohol. it is legal to bring alcohol here. im here getting sober. ive been abusing alcohol for 2 years and always been a social drinker since i was 15. i wish i never touched the stuff. it almost took my kidney and liver. i almost lost my job and kids. i gain over 50lbs. after i get better, i plan on downloading your book and getting healthy again. alcohol will not take over my life again. . . . you are an inspiration @kayla_itsines

Not her original post but her comment said that people who buy into the alcohol and cigarette industry are "brainwashed" IS stigmatising a mental health issue. And I do understand that it's her opinion, but ignoring scientific studies in favour of personal anecdotal "proof" and then saying that it's like "talking to a brick wall" when people bring up these facts isn't very supportive. @kayla_itsines has 1.3 mil followers, she should be a little more sensitive to those who have ongoing struggles with substance abuse and recognise that for some, giving up alcohol ISN'T a choice.

I really wish there was a like button for comments. So many people have said exactly what I was thinking about the 'stigmas' and 'moderation'. Moderation is the key in my mind, but as for Kayla saying there are no health benefits I once heard the the people who have the longest life expectancy as a nationality (I'm pretty certain it was Germans) are the ones who drink alcohol all throughout the day... Instead of coffee in the morning they have mulled wine. I can't confirm this is true but I do believe it's a personal and genetic reaction that you have to alcohol.... Not necessarily the generic expected reactions. Also claps for @jade_1292 and @miriamglzr for there comments

I'm a regular heavy drinker and I did not interpret Kayla's post as "bashing". It is a poison to the body and the highs you get from it is a result from your body having to neutralise the toxins. A glass or two your body can handle it and in the case of wine it has secondary benefits. As you push the barrier to get high to feel good, be more social, your liver is working harder. Everyone has a choice, and I drink knowing it hurts my body but accept the trade off.
